We are happy, proud, and excited to start a new project in collaboration with the labs of François St-Pierre and Jeff Noebels to better understand how short-term changes in inhibitory synapse strength contribute to seizure generation in epilepsy. With this project, we will use a combination of 2-photon voltage imaging and optogenetics to directly measure inhibitory postsynaptic potentials during spontaneous seizures in a chronic epilepsy model. This research will identify the inhibitory cell types that can be targeted to prevent and stop seizures. We are grateful for the support from the NINDS!
